Band Camp Update

Parents,

We have finished our first full week of band camp.  At a time in history when one of the only things  certain is uncertainty, itself, it has been a tremendous blessing to work with your young men and women. There is beauty in so many young people unified in their efforts to achieve a common goal. Thank you for sharing your children! It is a pleasure to serve them and, by extension, you. 

Our entire staff recognizes the incredible responsibility we have for your child’s health and well-being and are doing everything in our power to provide the safest possible experience in marching band.  To that end, please remind your students of the importance of wearing their mask whenever possible, social distancing when masks are not being worn, and always being honest as it relates to their health.  I have been so grateful for the efforts both students and parents have taken to honestly communicate concerns and health challenges. Our success is dependent on your honesty and personal diligence. Thank you!

Know that our staff is in constant communication with our school- and district-level administrators, working to adjust to the ever-changing information we receive regarding school, extracurricular activities, and the state of health within our city and state.  These are uncharted territories for all of us and I appreciate your patience and understanding.

The weather today was beautiful, and allowed us to adopt a slightly modified model for our rehearsal.  We spent an extended amount of time together outdoors including small group and large ensemble rehearsals.  When indoors, we continued to use social distancing and masks as well as extended social distancing when playing musical instruments.  Our staff plans to adopt that model for the remainder of camp.  In order to do so, we have decided to reduce our rehearsal schedule next week to 8-11 AM and remain outdoors for the duration (weather permitting).  Should we need to move indoors, we are comfortable with our extended social distancing for indoor rehearsals. I have made the correction to the online calendar (www.spainparkband.org/calendar).  Our schedule for next week will now be Monday-Friday 8am-11am.  Students will be dismissed and should be picked up at that time.

Our staff has decided to postpone picture day to a later date.  We will hold rehearsal on Thursday morning and our Band Boosters are preparing a pre-packaged meal for the students on Thursday at 11am.  We would also like to invite our friends and family to surround the practice field (with appropriate social distancing and masks) on Friday at 11am for a Parent-Preview of what our students have been preparing.
