eNote – April 15, 2020

Hello!  Did you see our big show reveal for the 2020 field show?  If not, CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE REVEAL!  We are very excited with how well it is coming together – we already have music written for the entire show and our staff have been working behind the scenes since January to lay a strong foundation for a STELLAR fall season.  It’s gonna be GREAT!

While I only have a few notes for you today, eNotes are still one of the only means we have to share important administrative information and I’d encourage parents to take a moment to read through them carefully.

Pick-Up, Drop-off for school-owned band-related items will be available next Monday from 9am to noon.  Students that desire to return or pick-up school-owned band-related items may meet a director at the band room side entrance (near the practice field) next Monday from 9am to noon.  These items might include instruments, sheet music, concert uniforms, etc. We must follow CDC guidelines and practice appropriate social distancing while dropping off and picking up materials.

Kim’s Cleaners on Valleydale Road is open and available to dry-clean our formal uniforms.  They asked that we be understanding as they cannot promise same-day pick up at this time.  Instead, plan for a one- to two-day turn-around. We would like to have formal uniforms cleaned, hung neatly, and labeled with students’ names by Thursday, May 21.  Stay tuned for ways to drop formal attire off on days other than next Monday.

Be reminded that our Band Booster Board has several leadership positions that will be vacated by parents of Senior band students.  That means WE NEED YOU! Be sure to read the special note from Alfred Perkins, Band Booster President, that we’ve included below for more details.

Students, be sure you are signed up for the appropriate Google Classroom.

This is how we’ll share academic activities, class-specific announcements, and assignments.  CLICK HERE for a list of the Classroom Codes.  I’ll reserve eNotes and Remind texts for full-band related information.

Spring 2020 Section Showdown is on!

CLICK HERE TO RECORD YOUR MUSICAL ACTIVITY. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE RUNNING TALLY OF TIME. It’s a competition for all our groups (visual and instrumental).  TUBAS are winning in a LANDSLIDE!

A Special Note from our Band Booster President, Alfred Perkins

Parents of Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen band students:

First, I hope you and your loved ones are faring well in the midst of this current environment, and that your students have made a smooth transition to on-line learning. These are unique times for us all.

Now, I have an exciting opportunity for all of you: the opportunity to support the best band students in the world- the amazing students (your children) that comprise the Pride of the Park, the Spain Park High School Band!!!

Over the past year, many of you spent many hours supporting the SPHS band, and for that we are grateful. It had a direct impact on our kids and helped them to be successful and enjoy the band. We had some very wonderful parents of seniors who served in booster leadership roles last year, and we now must fill these roles for next year.

Elaine Ake – uniforms

Kelly Miranda – finance

Todd Miranda – fund raising

Toyia Pride – chaperones

Additionally, Chad Hewitt, who served as Pres. Elect and Sparks Chairperson last year, will transition to President next year.  Therefore, we have leadership opportunities for both President Elect and Sparks Chairperson.

We have leaders returning in several areas: secretary, hospitality, concessions, equipment crew and band banquet.

If you are interested in a leadership role in any of these areas, please send me an email indicating the area(s) that you are willing to help lead.  Our goal is to have a leadership team in every area and to not put the burden of leadership on just one individual.

My email: alfred.perkins@charter.net

Thank you for your willingness to serve.

Alfred H. Perkins, Jr.

I want you to know that I am personally praying for you, POTP, and hoping that week 2 of on-line learning is going smoothly for everyone. Stay well, stay safe and be wise!
