eNote – July 14, 2020

Good afternoon SP Band!

It has been a busy two days in the SP Band Room.  The percussion section is ROCKIN’ OUT! I can’t wait for you to hear them. It makes me even more excited to welcome the rest of the Pride of the Park back to campus.

In spite of the recent decision to delay the start of school, we have been advised by SP administration to move forward with our current camp schedule.  It helps ensure we have adequate staffing and indoor rehearsal space to assist with appropriate health measures.  SP teachers will begin returning to school and our camp staffers will return to their other obligations in early August. I believe this is the wisest and safest decision for our students.

Our staff will discuss options for how to approach the increased time lapse between band camp and the start of school.  We will communicate as soon as possible any rehearsal changes for the weeks of August 2, 9, and 16.  I am so grateful for your patience and understanding as we work in these ever-changing times.

Here are a few updates and reminders before tomorrow’s Music Camp.  There are several.  Please read them carefully and work with us to help ensure a safe and FUN music camp.

  • Every student must complete an Intent to March form (https://bit.ly/2020IntentToMarch)
  • Every student must complete a Baseline Screening (https://bit.ly/Covid19BaselineScreening)
  • DO NOT SEND YOUR STUDENT TO REHEARSAL IF YOU SUSPECT THEY ARE ILL!
  • STUDENTS MUST HAVE A MASK OR APPROVED FACE SHIELD. PER HCS NEWEST GUIDELINES, WE WILL MASK INDOORS UNLESS PLAYING OUR INSTRUMENTS.
  • Students should bring a THERMOS full of water.  We have filling stations available.
  • Plan to arrive no more than 20 minutes before your scheduled rehearsal. Plan to pick your student up IMMEDIATELY after dismissal.
  • Student Parking is in the Athletics Lot. Parent Drop-Off is located in the Bus Lane.
  • DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDING until you have completed the Student Check In located in the Band Room Entry (Dumpster Doors).
  • Students will have their temperature taken before entering the building and they will be required to answer the following question: “Have any of your answers changed to the Baseline Screening”
  • It goes without saying, but being HONEST as your answer these questions helps ensure we all get to enjoy the marching band activity.
  • Students will enter the building and move directly to their assigned rehearsal room (See rehearsal schedule below).
  • Rehearsal rooms have been set up with a minimum of 36 sq. ft. set aside for each individual student.
  • Students should enter their room and move to a music stand and await further instructions.
  • Students will not share equipment with others.
  • School-owned instruments have been sanitized and will be located in the appropriate rehearsal space to minimize movement between rooms.
  • We will NOT USE LOCKERS this week.
  • Students should not bring unnecessary personal items into the building. Use good judgment and keep personal items to a minimum.
  • The rehearsal space will be sanitized in-between rehearsals.

A couple of other important dates to remember…

  • VIRTUAL BAND PARENTS Meeting: July 21at 7 PM
    • We will hold a Virtual Band Booster Meeting at this time.  We will discuss the upcoming season and ways we can work together to provide a GREAT SEASON for the students.  This meeting will cover DIFFERENT CONTENT than our July 7 meeting.  Please plan to attend.
  • FULL BAND CAMP: July 20-24 and July 27-31 (8am-4pm)
  • July 30 will continue to be set aside for pictures.  At this time we plan to only take two types of pictures: individual pictures and a full band picture while positioned on the football field appropriately spaced.  We will use a design from the show that showcases our students beautifully while promoting health and safety.  We will also be able to use the individual photos to digitally group students for a “Senior Class” photo/banner. Technology can be a BEAUTIFUL thing!
