Hello SP Band Family,


I hope your summer has been awesome!  A few more days left before Registration and Band Camp!  Start now preparing your body for the Alabama summer. Drink lots of water, go for a walk outside, mow the grass, be ACTIVE!


EXCITING NEWS…The Spain Park Band is going to have an assistant band director!!!!  Just last week, Dr. Murphy and HCS approved an assistant band director position for the Spain Park Band!!!  This has been a long time in the works and I’m personally very grateful to Mr. Giangrosso for his support in advocating for this NEW position.  We will hope to begin interviewing candidates next week with hopes of having our new assistant director on board in time for music camp!


Here are a few quick updates and reminders!


GREYSTONE JULY 4 WAGON PARADE  The Greystone Country Club is hoping to have a SP Pep Band at their July 4 community parade at 5 PM. Email cneugent@hoover.k12.al.us if you are interested! You can earn 1 hour community service!  Here are the details:


Greystone Country Club, Founders Clubhouse (4100 Greystone Dr, Birmingham, AL 35242)

Point of contact: Mr. Baggett

Meet at SPHS Band Room at 3:30 to pick up instruments.

Arrive at GSCC at 4:30 PM

Parade is 5:00-5:20 PM

Wear some SP Band gear to represent!  You will play some fun pep tunes as a group (no solos or duets).


We still need volunteers for the Pep Band.  Come and have some fun on the Fourth!


MANDATORY FORMS PACKET (http://bit.ly/2019-2020SPBandFormsPacket) Use the preceding link to access the 2019-20 Mandatory Forms Packet.  These are required the forms for EVERY marching member (instrumental, guard, dance and majorette).  You can complete them and drop them off at the main office of Spain Park HS or bring them to Marching Band Registration on July 13!


FAIR SHARE FEE Here is a friendly reminder that your Band Booster Fair Share Fee is due by July 13.  Those wanting to use a payment schedule to disperse payments over multiple payments should be using the following schedule: $150 (May 15); $100 (June 15); $100 (July 13). Don’t forget that companies throughout our community would LOVE to sponsor your student through the CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP program!


WE NEED YOUR HELP in three key areas for the 2019-20 school year.  Thank you those who have already reached out to volunteer.  We still need more volunteers. Please consider serving on one of these three committees:

  • Concessions
  • Hospitality
  • Pit Crew

MARCHING BAND PART ASSIGNMENTS AND SHOW FILES Show Files and Part Assignments are posted online here…http://www.spainparkband.org/resources/

Instrumentalists should access and print their show music before camp.  Anyone can view the drill for the first movement. It is going to be a GREAT show!!!


MATTRESS FUNDRAISER Save the date! Our 5th annual mattress sale is coming up on Saturday, August 10th! We have raised over $25,000 from this fundraiser in the last 5 years and it’s very important to our band. Prices are 30% – 50% less than retail. All mattresses are brand new. Financing and layaway are available. So…don’t buy a mattress just yet! August is coming!
