Hello, Pride of the Park!  I have missed the Spain Park Band…the students, the parents, our staff, the music, the FUN of being a part of this FANTASTIC group!  I LOVE EVERY ONE OF YOU!

Here is a quick update on all things band!

YES! WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A MARCHING BAND IN 2020-21!!!  At this time, we are planning to follow the same band camp schedule that is posted in detail online at www.spainparkband.org/calendar

Here is a quick overview of those dates:

  • PERCUSSION CAMP: July 13-14 (8am-4pm)
    • 8-11am: Battery, Brass and Guard
    • 12-3pm: Front Ensemble, Woodwind and Majorette
      • Dance is meeting at alternate times.  Ms. Moreno will communicate with Dance
      • We are meeting in smaller ensembles to allow appropriate training in safety procedures and to allow for a thorough cleaning of the rehearsal space between the two sessions each day.
  • FULL BAND CAMP: July 20-24 and July 27-31 (8am-4pm)
    • July 30 will be set aside for two important tasks…Marching Band pictures and School Registration.  We will take pictures between 9am-noon and students will be released to take care of SPHS School Registration the remainder of the day.

Stay tuned for important information on how our staff and administration are preparing to ensure a SAFE and EFFECTIVE camp experience for all of our students.  STUDENT SAFETY IS ALWAYS OUR #1 CONCERN.  We have been working hand-in-hand with our administrators and medical professionals to prepare a plan to help ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.  Our plans closely emulate those handed down by the Alabama High School Athletics Association (AHSAA) and are currently being used by our football, basketball, and cheerleading squads.

CONGRATULATIONS to our new majorettes and dance team.  We recently held auditions for both ensembles and are thrilled to welcome these young ladies to the Pride of the Park!  We are also excited to welcome our new dance team coach and sponsor, Ms. Julianna Moreno.  Ms. Moreno comes to us as a graduate of UAB where she performed with the Marching Blazers as a captain of the UAB Dance Team. Welcome, Ms. Moreno!

BAND BANQUET refunds were sent out earlier this month.  Our staff were very disappointed that we could not host a band banquet this spring.  At this time, it does not appear that we will be able to host an in-person outdoor event before our recently graduated Seniors head off to their next great adventure.  With that in mind, Click Here to watch a brief video presentation announcing the special award winners for the 2019-20 school year.  I will be at Spain Park HS on Thursday, June 18 from 9 am to 12 pm and would love to personally give these recipients their award.  Feel free to come around to the band room entrance where I will be stationed outside during that time.  If you are unable to come by on Thursday, email me and we can set up an alternative. FAIR SHARE BAND BOOSTER FEE and our FSF SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM are currently delayed.  Please stay tuned for more information regarding the FSF and the Sponsorship Program.  Know that SP, the Staff and Band Booster Board are all eager and willing to support our students and families during these challenging times.  As always, we want to do everything within our power to ensure every interested student has the opportunity to participate in the Pride of the Park!

ENSEMBLE PLACEMENTS can be viewed HERE.  We are fielding a full jazz ensemble and two concert bands in the fall.  Our Symphonic Winds are scheduled across two periods (1st and 6th periods) and will perform as a single ensemble throughout the year.  Chamber Winds are scheduled for 5th period each day.  The Shades of Blue Jazz Band will rehearse during 4th period each day.
