Hi SP Band Family,

Stay safe, stay well, and be wise!  I am personally praying for your safety and well-being during this challenging time.

During this extended time away from school I will continue to communicate via email (cneugent@hoover.k12.al.us), eNotes, our website (www.spainparkband.org), and Remind texts (https://www.remind.com/join/thespband). Typically, I’ll send the same information multiple ways to ensure that everyone is kept up-to-date. I try to respond to emails within 24 hours. Please know that I DO NOT have access to the SP Band Room at this time.

Let me encourage you to take some time during your extended break and work on your instruments and visual ensemble skills.  To help you, we’ve created this document:

This is a GREAT chance for you to work on those fundamentals that are so important.  Break up your time catching up on your favorite shows and social media with some music-making and interpretation.  Exercise your creative mind! Keep in mind, all of these activities are optional. No grade will be assigned. It’s simply an opportunity for us to provide musical encouragement and instruction during a unique time.

Additionally, several of you are working on college scholarship material, college tryout material for visuals or marching band, school of music auditions, etc. Please feel free to send us videos of your work so we can view and provide feedback.  We would love to help you prepare for these very important auditions. You can email these directly to cneugent@hoover.k12.al.us  or another of our staff members.

At this time, a number of events have been cancelled and others are on stand-by.  I am including a list of cancelled events at the bottom of this note. Large events that would draw large audiences (i.e. spring concerts, banquets, etc.) are on stand-by at the moment as I await further instructions from administration.  Should we have to cancel our Band Banquet, I will provide a full refund for those that have pre-paid. Thank you for your patience as we work through this ever-changing situation. The safety and well-being of your students is ALWAYS our first priority.

  • Winterguard competitive season has been cancelled moving forward.

  • Music Performance Assessment has been cancelled. Students who have already submitted payment for the charter buses will receive a full refund upon our return.

  • The Alabama Bandmasters Association has cancelled All-State Solo and the All-State Festival. Students who have already submitted payment for the hotel accomodation and solo festival will receive a full refund upon our return.

  • We have not made a final decision regarding our Band Banquet. Click here for very important Band Banquet information.  Parents of Senior Band Students, please take special note!

  • Drum Major, Majorette, Guard, and Sapphire Auditions are postponed.  Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

  • Student Leadership Team applications and interviews are postponed.  Stay tuned for more information. Get a jump start on your application. Click here for the leadership application

  • Our Percussion Studio may be presenting a Percussion Ensemble concert in conjunction with the Hoover High School Percussion Studio later this spring.  We have not made a final decision regarding this concert at this time. Stay tuned as more information becomes available.

  • The Shades of Blue Jazz Band is preparing a new collection of challenging charts for performance and competition this spring.  We have not made a final decision regarding this concert series at this time.  Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
