eNote – November 29

November 29, 2018

I hope this note finds you all well, having enjoyed a restful Thanksgiving last week! All of our performing ensembles (instrumental and visual) have officially turned their focus onto their winter seasons.

Several reminders for today…

Dance, Majorette and Guard should be receiving updates directly from their coaches and sponsors regarding their rehearsal and performance schedules for the remainder of this semester and beyond…Good Luck ladies in your winter season!

Winter Music Showcase (Monday, December 10 at Metro Church) is a REQUIRED combined performance by all of our instrumental ensembles and the Spain Park Choir.  It serves as portion of the semester exam!

  • All groups will have a dress rehearsal during the regular school day, Monday December 10.  Please email me directly if you can chaperone that field trip (8AM-11AM)!
  • Call Time for the performance is 6 PM.  Performance begins at 6:30 PM and will conclude at 8 PM.
  • Dress for the performance is CONCERT BLACK.
    • Ladies in school-issued dresses
    • Men in school-issued concert black
      • Concert Band – Black slacks, black dress shirt, long black socks, and black dress shoes (marching band shoes are PERFECT!)
      • Symphonic Winds – Black slacks, white tux shirt, tux jacket, cumberbund, bowtie, long black socks, and black dress shoes (marching band shoes are PERFECT!)

After-School Rehearsals are REQUIRED. Please take a look at the Monthly Calendar and plan accordingly.  Our After-School rehearsals are the ONLY time we are able to combine the Wind and Percussion sections in preparation for performance! We cannot perform at a superior level without these rehearsals and excessive absences hurt ALL of our members – not just those who are absent. Thank you for being so AWESOME!

Ice Skating (Tuesday, December 11 at Pelham Civic Complex) is an OPTIONAL event.  The student leadership team has organized a trip to the Pelham Civic Complex to Ice Skate!  The cost is $7 (skate and rink time) at the door (CASH ONLY). A SP representative must collect all cash at the door and make a single payment for us to receive the group discount.  Family and friends are invited! Come and celebrate a FANTASTIC fall semester!!!

Symphonic Winds

This is a special section for students and parents of our top performing concert ensemble

As we officially turn our full focus onto concert season, I wanted to share a few reminders about important dates and activities coming up in the next two to three months.  I will include a list below.

The Symphonic Winds have received an invitation to perform a 45-minute concert at the 2019 Alabama Music Educators Association Conference in Birmingham on Friday, January 18.  Over 35 ensembles applied to perform at this conference. Your students were one of only six ensembles chosen to perform. The honor associated with this performance cannot be overstated. You should be incredibly proud of your student!

We will present an in-school performance on Wednesday, January 16 for the Berry and SP bands and a “Send-Off” Concert on our home stage on Thursday, January 17 where we will perform our full program for you, our biggest fans!

In addition to those three concerts, we have a number of after-school rehearsals scheduled (view the Monthly Calendar or online www.spainparkband.org/calendar) and two Band Camp Dates: we are holding an in-school field trip on Thursday, November 15 from 8:15AM-5PM and a special music camp on Friday, January 4, from 9AM-4PM.
