eNote – October 27

October 27, 2020

Good afternoon, SP Band!

We have our final performance of the season this week, as we take a Pep Band to Hueytown HS for the season finale.  Be sure to check out the WEEKLY SCHEDULE.

  • A Note from Hospitality Chair, Kathy Langston

Dinner for Thursday will be pizza.  We need hospitality volunteers.  Make sure to be there by 3:30 since dinner will be  early.

  • A Note from Chad Hewitt, Band Booster President…

If you ordered Coke products through the Coke fundraiser they will be available for pickup on Thursday and Friday from 3:30 to 5:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00.  Pickup products at the Coke truck which will be parked near the band practice field.

  • Our Winter Music Showcase is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8.  The concert will be held in the Spain Park Competition Gymnasium which will best allow for a socially distanced setting for both our students and audience.  It is a required performance for our Instrumentalists.

There are two options for our Winter Performance Assessment:

  1. Students may participate in-person. Students electing to perform in person will be required to participate in daily in-school rehearsals (either virtually or in-person) and attend our four after-school rehearsals in-person  (see our master schedule online at www.spainparkband.org/calendar).  In short, students that desire to perform in-person are required to physically attend a minimum of our four after-school rehearsals.
  2. Students may also elect to submit an individual video performance of the selections for assessment.  They would still be expected to virtually participate in all in-school and after-school rehearsals.
  • We will begin our after-school rehearsals for Chamber Winds and Symphonic Band next week.  Each Instrumentalist is expected to participate in the after-school rehearsal associated with their respective band class.  Rehearsals will run from 3:45-5 PM one day a week for each ensemble.  See our master schedule online at www.spainparkband.org/calendar for a full list of our rehearsal schedule leading to our Winter Music Showcase.
  • A final note from Lauren Grace Gurganus about our PINK PLUME PROJECT

Hi Spain Park Band family!

My name is Lauren Grace Gurganus and I’m a senior this year. I’m also one of the flute section leaders. Last year I organized a fundraiser to pay for pink plumes for the band to wear during October to raise awareness for breast cancer, and we raised just enough to cover the cost of the plumes. This year we are continuing that fundraiser, except this time 100% of the money raised will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. We will be raising money all throughout October and it can be made in the form of cash or check. We would love for everyone to participate so we can make a big donation at the end of the fundraiser. Thank you so much!
